And I hope im the extreme case because i live in so cal. So This write up is mainly for folks whose hardtops are no longer adjustable like mine. Our hardtops will deform and stretch slightly over a few years if exposed to really hot sun. I believe this happens because in high heat/chassis flex the fiberglass warms up and stretches. So people try to shimmy them or zip tie them. to the point of the latches being completely loose. At first my hardtop was nice and snug, it wasnt even maxed out on the adjustments, but overtime it just gets looser. The problem is is that the Hardtop gets looser with time. Unhook the small spring from the bottom portion of the arm. Lets start on the top front latches, open the latch, and remove the plastic "adjust shield" piece. And it is possible to strip the mounting area of the nut from the inside!įor This Write up we do not need to remove any of the latches from the hardtop, we also do not need to remove the hardtop from the car, we will just pull the "hook arms" off the latches and work with them out of the car.ġ. I DO NOT RECOMMEND UNSCREWING THE LATCHESĮssentially the latches are screwed into the fiberglass of the roof. I did this today on my own car, and decided to do a step by step write up for others that have tried this or wanted to but were iffy on taking the latches off. First of all I would Like to thank FuZZy_gr for the tips on how to rework the latches so they can be adjusted past their full tightness.
